D.J. says I'm not contributing to the website enough. So, I'm writing a blob entry about the book I just read. Don't make fun of me because of my 7th grade reading level! Yes, I am a 13 year old girl.
The Host by Stephenie Meyer is the book I just read. She wrote the Twilight books, ya know? I enjoyed this book as much, or maybe more than, the Twilight series! Stephenie Meyer's flair for writing about inter-species forbidden love makes this science fiction novel a real heart grabber!!
It's really great that we have this planet to ourselves, for now, as humans to rule. Wouldn't it freak you out if this power arrangement ever changed? What if the world you grew up understanding was just....no more? What if your body and mind were taken from you and you couldn't find comfort even in yourself? Your very own soul has been replaced!!! Wouldn't it be super weird if you were a lost soul that was taking over a person's life?! So many struggles would be present!
These are some of the crazy ideas introduced in The Host! It's interesting to envision how human nature might respond in desperate situations!! How would people act? A pure soul never considers harm. To an outsider it probably looks like humans feed off hurting each other! Now, like we can interpret from The Host, inhumanity doesn't always prevail. Humans don't need an alien soul inside them to be good. Most people do have their own moral code and at least some form of a conscience.
What is a conscience anyway? In real life, I tend to think its The Holy Spirit! What is a soul?! That, I don't understand! I think everybody is born with their very own soul. Or, maybe a soul is born into its own body! Then probably the soul is empty and longing until the Holy Spirit moves in! Then, you have a complete soul with a conscience! So, really, nobody on Earth should need a soul like Wanderer from The Host to move in! We can just invite the Holy Spirit. Isn't this thought warm and gooey like underdone cookies?!
It really is weird to think of the body and soul as different entities. I'm too dumb to understand it. But it's crazy! One of the songs we're learning in choir is an old song by Beethoven, My Soul Longs for You, O God. I don't remember the words right now, or I'd put them up here for us to read later. They weren't on the internet. I know it says "My soul longs for you, O God....long I wait." Then there's a bunch more about longing and being fulfilled and junk. It's a pretty thought. Then another song we sang last night made me notice that there are tons of songs about souls and how they cry out to God like the person isn't crying out but their soul is. In the song we were singing the person was directing their soul. I guess you can tell your soul what to do? I'll think about this some more later.
I never noticed my soul being different from my mind or person. Maybe when I feel heart pangs, like when you see DJ or Snot-rag, that's my soul speaking to me! Maybe it's that feeling I ignore when I feel like I should do something nice! Either way, I'm sure my soul is in there.
But, I am glad to know that The Host is just fiction. It’s comforting to know our souls will inhabit our earthly bodies at least until 2012. Also, I’m glad the rumors say there will be, not 1, but 2 sequels to The Host!!! I can’t wait!
